Writing your way to health in 2014

Write Your Way to Improved Health in 2014!

We all have a desire to live our best life. You can write your way to improved health in 2014 by rewriting some of your story, your life story. With pen, paper and a few moments in about a week you may be able to change what has been a tragic or crippling incident into a catapult to health! By using expressive writing, your pen helps you to release emotion, renew your mind. The end result is improved well-being.

Expressive writing is the process that was briefly described in the above video by Professor James W. Pennebaker. He has done much research on the links between emotional experiences and their effect on health. The video explains the expressive writing method. He and others have been able to document that when strong negative emotions are released through expressive writing the outcome is improved well-being. We can benefit from the results of his work.

Our thoughts are connected to feelings, emotions, actions, behaviors, habits and shape our character, which is illustrated by our lifestyles. When those thoughts create love they come from God. When our thoughts include: fear, hate, envy, jealousy, or the desire to provoke one another we are to renew our minds. The renewing of our minds begins with thoughts that lead to those negative emotions and actions.

Chapters From Your Story

Has there been a traumatic experience in your life that you are unable to get past? Have you held a secret about something that influences your daily interactions with others yet you have no “safe place” to share? Have you noticed a major decline in your sense of well-being because you are dwelling on a traumatic experience that you cannot seem to dislodge from your thinking? As you viewed the attached video did you find you were able to easily select a topic to write about?

If the answer is yes to any of those queries then it is very likely that expressive writing will help you to write your way to improved health in 2014!

Can you invest 15 minutes a day for four days to improve your health using the expressive writing method? The numerous favorable research results are a good indicator of the value of this method.

God instructs us in His word, the manual which instructs us on His path, to seek His way of doing and being right. Surely it is worth the effort to align our lives with our Maker’s instructions. Our Creator who is love makes every provision for us to live a life of good success however, there are some things we are to do.

Write it Out

Are you ready to write your way to improved health in 2014!

Go to a quiet location where you will not be interrupted. Get paper and your favorite writing instrument in hand, use the computer or speak into an audio recorder. No need to share your writing with anyone else. If it is too uncomfortable to write about a particular topic, change topics. Or write about a recurring dream you have.

Go into the exercise with the understanding that many have been helped just by writing down the information. Focus on the feelings; not the whys. Record the emotion. Be sure to write for the entire 15 minutes. Express your feelings honestly without fear of being judged.

Now Debrief

When you have finished the exercise on the final day. Remain in the quiet place. Sit in God’s presence and ask Him what He wants of you. Sit quietly until you get an answer. Your answer will probably not come audibly. It is likely to come from deep down within you. A voice that you recognize from other times He has given you a message in the same way. Then follow His instruction.

Visualize the freedom you have following the exercise. Take note of the instructions from our Creator.

Recognize how your feelings have held you back, limited you. Then think about what you will do in the future to change your story. Look at the strengths that you had at the time of the situation about which you wrote. Glory to God you used those strengths to mobilize you again today, you renewed your mind!

Let’s leave behind the past hindrances we have already identified and look ahead to conquering new challenges in 2014.

Take Inventory and Take Action!
