The Miracle Worker

The_Miracle_Worker_MapsAndLanterns.orgThe Miracle Worker” was a celebrated movie in 1962, and is still enjoyed by audiences today. The plot of the story is an expression of love and perseverance that results in triumph. Each of us is part of a story that is filled with love, perseverance and triumph. Our lives move so very fast today, I think the miracles worked in our lives daily somehow go unnoticed. How can we be sincerely thankful to THE miracle worker when we fail to see Him as He is?

In the movie a young girl, blind and deaf from birth is about to be institutionalized because her parents are ill-equipped to provide her with the tools necessary to manage her life successfully. The woman the family summons for assistance, is herself partially sighted. Her methods initially appear to be harsh but over time the young girl responds and begins to take positive control of her own life.

The story set in 1882 is so very relevant for us today. The woman that taught the young girl, was named Annie Sullivan. Ms. Sullivan was able to reach into the darkness that was the life of little Helen Keller and free her into a whole new world. Truly a miracle worker.

Biblical Proportion

When we think about miracles we tend to think of the parting of the Red Sea, the turning of the water to wine, or perhaps the healing of the lepers. I am certain you have your own examples of miracles which rival these in proportion. Biblical!

I too have my list. One that often comes to mind is an occurrence that took place when I was in the company of my loving husband. We were traveling on a major east west boulevard near our home in Los Angeles, California.

It was a beautiful afternoon, one that would be the highlight of any chamber of commerce video log. My husband was driving in an eastwardly direction and had stopped in the center left turn lane to watch for approaching traffic.

As we waited for the traffic to lag, in order for our vehicle to safely complete the turn, a vehicle appeared; in the middle lane, only yards in front of us, facing our vehicle, moving at a high rate of speed. There was a continuous flow of moving traffic surrounding us. Our vehicle was static and everything around us was in motion.

Most importantly, there was now a formidable vehicle quickly approaching us, head-on, without any possible means of escaping impact! I saw the man seated at the wheel of the oncoming vehicle. He was close enough for me to look into his eyes. He had no apparent intention of stopping. Our vehicle could not proceed in any direction without colliding with another vehicle.

It is taking much longer to relate the event than the actual time that elapsed, it seemed to be milliseconds as it occurred.

In the instant when impact seemed imminent, I closed my eyes. As I anticipated the next second I uttered the word, “Father!” My reference was to our heavenly Father. It was my attempt at summoning  my source.

There was a time of stillness, then a sound like sw-o-o-sh, then nothing. I opened my eyes. The car that was approaching us on a collision path was gone! It had disappeared! I looked around, there was no trace of anything that looked even remotely like that car anywhere! I asked my husband, “Where did it go?” He said, “I don’t know.”

I related to him in astonishment that my eyes were closed so I did not see. He informed me his eyes were open and the car simply disappeared! A miracle, indeed!

As I ruminate on this event it still stirs me today, and my husband also.

Everyday Miracles

We have many such events in our lives. Each of us every day. The illness that we overcame, the catastrophe that bypassed us, the finances that opened a door we thought was nailed shut, the unexpected income, the infant that survived against all odds are all miracles.

Yes, the fact that our hearts pump oxygenated blood to feed our organs and tissue. The intricacies of our spectacular brains that are equipped with more features than any technology we experience. Every day there are so many miracles that come from THE miracle worker.

The love and sacrifice shown to us by our heavenly Father is a miracle in itself. Let us not forget to give thanks. In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 we are reminded, “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (KJV)

Let us acknowledge THE miracle worker and thank Him for His love as we persist and triumph!

Take Inventory and Take Action. I challenge you to count the miracles that occur over the next 24 hours. Let me know how many you reveal. Remember to give thanks!

Love,

Deborah
