True Value

While we may debate whether time exists and if it is an event or a thing, we possibly can agree that when calendars approach the end of another year we all participate in reflection. This week as I shared in the exercise I began to think about the true value of the commodity known as time. Our true value is reflected in how we obey God.

Youth

As a child I do not remember thinking about how I used my time. I fail to recollect when I began to think seriously about the true value of time.

Before my grandmother transitioned I saw the example of a Godly woman. I love her dearly, now as a memory, as a youth in the flesh. I knew that she loved me. I knew her tender touch, her beautiful smile. I can still remember the cakes and pies she made like no one else. I loved, and liked my grandmother intensely.

I remember once I had a very bad headache. I told her about the headache. She had me to lay my head across her lap, and she began to pray. I clearly remember her using her right hand in a wiping motion that seemed to draw the pain away. Very shortly I went to sleep.

When I awakened the pain was gone. Then in my teens it was not until about ten years later that I realized I had experienced the first of many migraines.

That was decades ago. I miss her dearly. If I had given true value to the time I spent with her I would have even more of her in my heart. I am saddened that I did not more greatly appreciate what I had, while she was still here.

Time and Tide

When we are young it seems we will live forever, we believe we are invincible and we have time to get it right. At least that is the way I felt, how about you?

In my time of reflection I have thought more about other things that we all tend to value more when it appears we have less of it in our lives. The partial list includes: money, loving relationships, vacations, good neighbors, family members, luxury items, transportation, friends, walks on the beach, and reading a good book.

Today we have the benefit of having a plethora of information at our fingertips. We have: numerous versions of the Bible, commentaries, sermons, blogs, DVDs, worship services, fellowship groups, hangouts, podcasts and internet radio. All of which are available online, tablets or Smartphones. We can even connect through Smart TVs and Smartwatches. We are able to access the items in our vehicles too.

We have access to so much information. Life-changing information. We are told that we are to transform our minds by renewing them.

Do we really take that to heart? Do we understand that we will not be young forever, invincible or have decades to get it right? Do we see that as each day passes we have less time here to be about our Father’s business? Do we recognize the urgency of following His word and doing His will?

Do we understand the importance of the signs that reveal the end of this wicked system of things is at hand?  Do we recognize that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords will return for His children? Do we recognize the true value of the living word of God?

It is outstanding that we can communicate around the world in real time. We can even use the computer to translate from one language to another instantaneously as we speak! We can connect on social media platforms galore!

Yet have we connected with our heavenly Father? Have we made Jesus the Christ our BFF? When was the last time you lingered sitting in God’s presence? Do you work on renewing your mind consistently?

In my grandmother’s day we did not have such volume of information. Her race is over.

We are to purify our hearts with the word. There will come a time when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess. What will be revealed about what is of true value in your life?

It is said that time and tide waits for no one. When the appointed time comes we will not have another chance. Time is running out!
