We are in that season, are you ready?

They were wrong! Whoever determined that the Mayan calendar indicated that the world would end in a fiery display on December 21, 2012 was wrong. The fact that you are reading this now is clear evidence! I intend no ill will against the Mayan calendar makers, their descendants or those whose incorrect interpretations caused them to come to the conclusion that December 21, 2012 was the precise date of the end of the earth. Neither is it my desire to poke fun at those who sequestered themselves in remote locations either to withstand the destruction or party for the last time!

If you didn’t hear about the declaration of the end of the world being prophesied by ancient records left by the Mayans, millions of others did. There were more than five million website hits on sites providing scientific evidence, or rather lack of evidence, to substantiate the claim of the end of the world. Some people seemed to laugh it off, while others appeared to be very concerned.

What were your thoughts and actions when you heard about this prediction? What are your thoughts now? Did you have a not so private chuckle about those who believed the end was near? Did you maybe even think of the last people you wanted to see or the things you wanted to do before the end of the world? Did you or do you now still have questions about what to do as we pass the date of this prediction? Where is the true prediction or prophecy? How will we know when it’s announced? What can we do to get from this date to that one?

What would happen if we live our lives as if we are all moving closer to the end of this world, (as we know it)? What would happen? What if we decided what is important to us and wholeheartedly pursued it as if we were completing our last days on earth? What if we deliberately lived life on purpose instead of waiting for the next prediction, or wave, or movement to come along, and sweep us away?

What do you truly stand for? What are you willing to stand for?

Whether you believe this planet will go on forever, or you think you will be able to evacuate, or you take your last breath while quietly sleeping and transition somewhere else; these are your last days! Like those shinny new parts that come together to assemble your favorite automobile, as soon as it is driven off the lot it begins to depreciate. It is no longer a new car with each day you enjoy it moves closer to being older. We too, once born begin to move closer to our end. These bodies are temporary, as a tent is temporary housing. At some point we will leave these bodies for a more permanent home. More time has passed behind us than we have before us in these tents.

In 1 Thessalonians chapter five, written by my favorite author the Apostle Paul, he shares about what the “children of light” will experience at that time when the end comes to this world. His writings speak of watching and being sober. It also alerts us that the time of the end is coming. He further gives us instructions about how we are to look forward to that day. There are several references in the Bible to the last days. Clearly these are our last days, yours and mine.

We are to get ready. We are to live our lives according to our maker’s instructions. We are to be watching and to be sober. Being ready is an option! I implore you to be ready! Be ready! It is up to each of us love one another, to open ourselves to love, to release ourselves to love. When we walk in love we are following our maker’s instructions.

When we get to our last moments here what will our legacy be? What will the ledger reveal about what we have done with the responsibilities and opportunities we were given? If you were able to stand alongside yourself and observe the evidence, the fruit of your life, what would you see? Would you see a person that is planning, everyday (as if it were their last), to be ready to transition from this tent to a house that rests on a foundation of love?

According to our instruction manual we are in that season where prophecy will come true, yet we do not know the day or the hour. As we are in that season, will you be found ready or do you think your calendar gives you more time?

As we come to the end of this, another year on the Gregorian calendar, (used here in the United States) when will the end come? Where will you be, and what will you be found doing?

My mother had a number of sayings that ring in my ears now that she is no longer here to say them to me. One of the quotes that really has stayed with me is, “Every tub sits on its own bottom”. When the end does come can you be counted as one who loved your neighbor as yourself?
